Sumr v2.30: Gemini, YouTube, freemium, and liquid glass
Major Sumr update adds Google Gemini as a fifth provider, YouTube transcript summarization, URL sharing from any app, a freemium tier, and liquid glass UI for iOS 26.
Sumr v2.30 is out on the App Store.
This is the biggest update since launch. Five providers, two new input types, a free tier, and a full visual refresh for iOS 26.
Google Gemini BYOK
Sumr now supports five providers: Sumr (built-in), OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Gemini, and any custom OpenAI-compatible endpoint. Gemini uses your own API key, same as the others - no subscription, no proxy.
YouTube and URL summarization
You can now summarize YouTube videos directly. Sumr extracts the transcript and feeds it to your chosen model - no need to read the page itself.
URL-based summarization also works from any app’s share sheet now, not just Safari. Share a link from Slack, Twitter, or anywhere else - Sumr fetches the content via Readability + Turndown and summarizes it.
Freemium model
New users get 10 free lifetime summaries. No account, no credit card. Follow Ups purchasers get a weekly bonus on top.
Liquid glass and iOS 26
New app icon with gradient + liquid glass treatment. The entire UI is updated for iOS 26 readiness.
Under the hood
- OpenAI model list overhaul: GPT-5 family and o-series reasoning models
- Replaced content extraction engine with Readability + Turndown (more reliable, cleaner output)
- Share extension runs summarization off the main thread - no more frozen UI
- Haptic feedback fires on first streaming chunk instead of button tap
- Rate button in share extension with 30-day cooldown
- Buildable folders migration (Xcode 16+)
- Unified error messages across all targets
